Jo and her team at HCSUK make a real positive improvement to the lives of the elderly residents we look after. They reflect our values and are "devoted" to their customers. Ensuring that we, as a care home for the elderly, never ran out of PPE or materials for infection control throughout the COVID crisis - so keeping our staff and residents safe. Also as a social care provider I knew they were always there to support us whatever came our way - complete reassurance. But they went further. They researched new and innovative products and services. Kept us up to date on market trends, changing guidance and new ways of working.
During the pandemic there were shortages of all types of cleaning products, at one point there was a nationwide shortage of the disinfectant and our usage had dramatically increased, we were running out and needed a similar product urgently. With one call to Jo and her team they sourced and delivered an equivalent product within two hours.
When we installed a bar in our dementia home we needed glassware that was safe for residents with a dementia. Jo researched some shatterproof plastic beer tankard and wine glasses that were indistinguishable from glass ones found in every pub. This made our inhouse bar look and feel normal, maintained resident’s human rights to a normal life, respected their dignity but was also safe.
During the pandemic we found that residents who were hard of hearing were unable to hear because they had become accustomed to lip reading. Despite the national shortages of all PPE Jo found masks that had clear plastic panels in front of your mouth so residents could see staffs and visitors lips. They could then hear much better.
Reducing cross infection between rooms and residents has become paramount. We asked Jo to come up with new infection control solutions. She sourced an aerosol canister that contained a special and safe disinfectant that could be set off in a room and “fogg” the entire room killing any bacteria.
